Fully cured: hard bar, long-lasting, ready to lather.
How this bar is made
Every bar is made cold-process in small batches, then left to cure on racks for 4 weeks. Nothing is melted down from a pre-made base.
Ingredients
As printed on the labelOlive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, water, sodium hydroxide, castor oil, lavender essential oil, Brazilian purple clay.
Color comes from clays, botanical powders, turmeric, charcoal or indigo, never from dyes.
The 4-week cure
Cold process, no shortcutsCold-process soap is made by mixing oils with lye and letting the two react at room temperature. The glycerin that forms along the way stays in the bar instead of being pulled out, as it often is in mass-produced soap.
Fresh soap is soft and holds extra water. Over the cure, that water slowly evaporates and the bar hardens, so it lathers better and lasts longer in the shower.
Make it last
Three small habitsHandmade soap keeps its glycerin, which draws in moisture. Let it dry out between uses and a bar goes a long way.
- 1 Keep it on a slatted cedar deck, out of the direct spray.
- 2 Let it dry fully between uses. Cut the bar in half if you like a smaller piece.
- 3 Tuck the last slivers into a sisal pouch and use every bit.
